Character Bios.
Rita- is a 14 year old girl that goes to school at Central High in Paterson, New Jersey.
Meli- Rita’s best friend in New Jersey.
Papá Juan- Rita’s grandfather, is a spiritist with kind brown eyes that are said to be able to look into people’s hearts.
Mamá Ana- Rita’s grandmother, is a pretty strong pudgy old lady that treats any illness with tea. She got married and started having babies at the age of 15. In her youth, she dreamed about becoming a professional dancer.
Johnny Ruiz- is a very popular troubled boy who fancies Rita and is a varsity basketball team player at Eastside High.
Joey Molieri- Meli’s boyfriend, is an Italian that lookes Puerto Rican and plays for Eastside.
Angela- Rita’s best friend in Puerto Rico, is a 16 year old very thin girl. She has long black hair and bronze skin. Lives in an elegant pink house at the beach with her mother, and at the moment she met Rita, a bad influence was settled over her. She had a very difficult childhood which included her father leaving her when she was 5 years old and having a lot of baby-sitters while her mother moved them from place to place looking for job opportunities.
Mr. Jones- Angela’s stepfather, owned hotels before he died in a small-plane crash a year ago. Although he was very focused on money, he was a nice guy.
Maribel Hernández Jones- Angela’s mother, is a believer that’s not very stable emotionally. She is a rich elegant widower who works doing toothpaste commercials.
Angela’s mother’s boyfriend- is the agent of the bad influence that affected Angela. He is described as a bad man that frightens Angela and is suspected of hitting her.
Ramón- is a rooster allowed in Juan’s house that has no notion of time and sings whenever.
Grandparent’s neighbor- is a fat woman with no boundaries that eavesdrops on Rita’s phone conversation to learn English from it.
